Client Goal

Replace a water service that ran under the building foundation with a safer, code-compliant routing through the rear lane.

Challenge

Avoiding confined-space work under an occupied, operating facility, while keeping the rear lane and parking area functional throughout.

Approach

Traffic-controlled and barricaded the rear work area, excavated roughly 50 linear feet of trench with trench protection, cored the foundation wall for the new 2-inch line, and is installing a new interior manifold with pressure-reducing valves and shutoffs ahead of pressure testing and commissioning.

Outcome

In progress — new service built and nearly ready for commissioning, with the old line to be capped off and the asphalt restored to finish.

Scope of Work

  • Traffic control and barricading of the rear work area
  • Saw-cut and removal of asphalt over the new trench line
  • Excavation of approx. 50 LF of trench, 4 to 6 ft deep, with trench protection
  • New 2-inch water line from the curb stop to the building
  • Core through the foundation wall for the new line
  • New interior water line to existing connections, with manifold, pressure reducing valves and shutoffs
  • Sand bedding, compacted backfill, pressure test and commissioning
  • Cap-off of the existing service, and asphalt repaving to match
